Live demo on an Ecumaster Emu

Here I report on the first live demo of the large 2.8″ touch display. In the course of developing the new display, it was important to me to read the data directly on a vehicle to see how the display behaves with live data.

The test vehicle

I was able to get Denis on board for this and he made his Golf 2 VR6 Turbo with Ecumaster Emu control available. He also wanted to have the shift light directly. We lowered the speed thresholds a little for the video so that the engine didn’t have to be driven up to the limiter. You can freely determine the speed limit and color for each of the 8 LEDs.

Installation position

Due to its compact height, the display can be installed precisely into the DIN radio slot. Denis still had a previous version with a 3D printed housing. I later delivered the milled aluminum cover to him.

Live demo (video)

Here finally the video. The following widgets are used:
– Speed widget (top)
– Number display (four pieces on the left side: engine temperature, boost pressure, intake temperature, oil temperature)
– Round display (right side: Lambda1)

Development MFD28

We are currently in the middle of developing a larger MFD28. A display with a capacitive touchscreen will be used. Capacitive? The feeling will be like the modern cell phone. You don’t have to actively apply pressure, just a light touch is enough.

The case

CANchecked display start screen

…gets an aluminum panel milled from the solid. This is then anodized black and looks so noble and fits in well with almost every vehicle interior:

widgets

Thanks to the higher resolution and the touchscreen, “widgets” can be created. These can be freely positioned on the screen and changed in size. The user can therefore put together his own views.

There are the following widgets:
– graphic log
– digital number
– bar chart
– number display
– circular display
– own image or logo from the SD card

Even more controllers

The CAN bus interface still offers a great opportunity to support other control devices with relatively little effort. Furthermore, the connection of control devices via serial/RS232 is planned. This means that users of VEMS, MME, etc. are no longer left out.

Current Status

Some displays are already in circulation and are in beta testing. The collected input is checked and partly incorporated into the display. It will have at least the same functionality as the smaller MFD15
: – Max/Min value memory
– Max/Min warning values
- Acoustic and visual warning
– Connection of the shift light
– Analogue inputs
– everything can be configured by the user himself, only this time via touch

New software v2.0

The new software 2.0 will be delivered with all new displays with immediate effect.

new software
software update

New features:

  • SpnngPin100 has been replaced by Speed - this can now be used to display the speed from the control unit (as long as the signal is fed in)
  • LambdaTemp is replaced by Lambda2
  • Support for Megasquirt control devices
  • long button press (approx. 3s) in the sensor settings changes the adjustment increment – the change field is then red instead of gray)
  • Single pointer and double pointer are now available
  • The different displays can now be assigned individual views (e.g. only 3x 4-fold display, 3x large single value, 2x single pointer) via the menu item “Display”
  • ANRefValues for the analog inputs (the analog sensor only warns if the reference value is exceeded – e.g. only from a speed of 2000 rpm)
  • names can be assigned for the analog sensors
  • Shift light  integration

There is more about this in the  description of the display

Updating installed displays

Existing displays can be partially updated, but must be sent in for this. For more information contact me:  contact

Shift light – additional option

There is a new additional option – the shift light

A shift light will soon be available as an option for the CANchecked display. This is simply plugged into the existing display at the back. It consists of 8 LEDs, which are fully configurable. This means that the color and speed can be adjusted for each LED, as can the “flash speed”. The brightness can also be dimmed – for all LEDs together.

Dimensions and Connection

The dimensions of the module are approximately 75x25mm. The back is smooth and can be fixed with double-sided tape. The 50cm cable offers great flexibility when choosing the space. For example, you can also think about a head-up display (reflected in the windshield).

It is also possible to expand an ad that has already been purchased. Depending on the hardware, however, an analog input (AN4) may have to be dispensed with. This is deactivated by the software. With the 2.8″ display, expansion is possible without restrictions. If you are interested, just get in  touch.
