Why do you need an Audi 80 display? We love old-school vehicles like the Audi 80. Who doesn’t have their hearts beat faster when they see a 5-cylinder S2 or RS2? The vehicles are extremely popular. Not least because the engines have a lot of potential and the body is perfect as a basis for an engine conversion. Now we come into play.
 

Together with two customers (thanks to Ron and Robert for their patience) we set about implementing an Audi 80 display. Our  MFD28 – Multi Function Display  fits perfectly into the location of the original board computer. So Stephan from the design department sat back down at his desk and conjured up a holder that bolts to the original mounting points – no cutting, no drilling. Of course, our shift light module (can be ordered as an option) with a specially designed housing also fits into the speedometer. The original outside temperature display is no longer required.
 

Since our display is operated via touch, we needed a solution for switching pages. The flexible inputs/outputs made it possible to use one as an input and connect it to the original MFA lever of the Audi 80. We also use the RESET switch to dim the display and shift light for night operation.
 

– technical implementation –

Due to the slim design of the MFD28 board, we are able to offer exactly such solutions. A specially manufactured adapter for the speedometer is used, which holds the display.
 
Nothing needs to be cut or drilled on the speedometer itself. This means that retrofitting is possible at any time without any problems.
 
A shift light has also found its place. It can be clearly seen in the video at the end of the article – the colors and speed thresholds can be individually changed.

Inspired by our customer with the individual integration of an  MFD15  in a Mazda MX5, we have designed a specific conversion kit, which makes it possible to remove the original oil pressure display and install our display – WITHOUT cutting – the CANchecked Mazda MX5 speedometer conversion

Unfortunately, a small modification has to be made and that would be a hole for the cable passage on the back of the speedometer.

The OLED technology of the display ensures the best readability even in sunlight. It is operated using the tried and tested rotary knob, which enables precise control of the display.

Our MFD15 is installed  , software and hardware (apart from the housing) are identical. Only freely programmable control units are currently supported (trijekt, megasquirt, LinkECU, KMS).

In addition to the Can Bus connection, the display has 4 analog inputs for connecting 0-5V sensors (oil pressure, fuel pressure, boost pressure, exhaust gas temperature with type K converter). These inputs can be individually configured (mapping the 0-5V signal to the real values).

The conversion is carried out by the customer himself. Installation instructions are included.

The conversion kit and the instructions are complete and the NA/NB versions can be obtained from our dealers. The popular motorsport electronics ME221 Gen1 can be connected directly to the MFA with a special adapter from us.
We could not find a speedometer solution for the MX5 NC and ND. But we have designed nice inserts for the air vents. These versions also work with the original control unit via the OBD2 socket.

The Fiat Abarth 595 display, like all of our other items, can be obtained from one of our  dealers.

Our DIN bezel – Our customers are always faced with the challenge of where to best integrate the display. Ambitious road or track day drivers often do without a radio. The music comes from the engine and would only distract you unnecessarily.

Since there are already ready-made solutions with 3 round instruments, we came up with the idea of   ​​integrating our MFD28 here. Due to its compact design, we were able to create a suitable panel and holder using the 3D printing process. Since there was still more space here, we provided a slot for a 52mm round instrument (e.g. our  MFD15 ).

The sheet metal frame shown for fixing the DIN panel is included in the scope of delivery. The delivery also includes a blind cap for the 52mm. Here you could fit the USB connection from the display or even the SD slot with a suitable extension.

In order to make driving safer, we have integrated the cruise control switch here with the company Lightweight-Performance .

If the cruise control is not active, you can use the up/down button to scroll through the views on the display. This has the following advantages

1. no “searching” of the display while concentrating on the road
2. Switching also with gloves (on track days)
3. Quickly and safely check overview pages and then return to the main view

Reading and deleting errors

With a “Swipe” down you get access to the “DTC” (Diagnostic Trouble Codes = error memory). The display reads the error memory from the engine. Optionally, you can also delete them directly on the display.

Errors for the engine are displayed in plain text so that you can decide for yourself whether you can continue driving.
